Went to Frampton Marsh for the first time in a while with Steve Godson on a lovely clear, sunny but very windy day. We had a good day with quiet a lot of the time being spent in the hides to keep out of the biting wind!
The day proved to throw up a few firsts for me, Merlin, Scaup (thanks to Chris Grimshaw for pointing the pair out to us), my first photos and possibly first sight of male Goldeneye and first decent images of Golden Plover.
We did not see the 4 White Fronted Geese, next time eh? There were massive numbers of Golden Plover, good numbers of Lapwing with other species seen including, Ruff, Sanderling, Dunlin, Little Egret, Little Grebe, Pochard, Mallard, Teal, Wigeon, Cormorant, Curlew, Linnet, Goldfinch, Yellowhammer, Greenfinch, Tree Sparrow, Peregrine with the star bird for me the very fast wind assisted and low fly past of a Merlin in front of the Reedbed hide, I only just managed to see it with my eyes let only get a camera onto it!! 🙂
Below is a large (not too large I hope?) selection of the photo’s I managed on the day. We ended up trying to touch base with the Little Owls on Turnor Road Grantham but after a brief sighting as an Owl made its way from one building to the back of another. All in all a good day but cold.
