I made a visit to Haverholme Park yesterday afternoon, its a site I’ve not visited before but always wanted to as I know it was a favourite haunt of Derrick and Sheila Brookes, I wasn’t disappointed , The first notable birds were Marsh Tit, they seemed to be everywhere, accompanied by Coal, Blue, Great and Long Tailed Tits.
A 10m reeded section of the Slea held 8 Reed Warbler, 3 Whitethroat, 3 Garden Warbler and a handful of Chiffchaff.
4 Common Buzzard were vocal for the duration of my visit but the highlight for me was a party of 8 Spotted Flycatcher spread over just a couple of trees in the bright sunshine.
Common Darter and Migrant Hawker were very numerous with just 2 Brown Hawker, a few Common Blue butterflies were spread out over the site.
A great unspoilt site which I shall definitely be visiting again 🙂
