Bombed up to Whisby yesterday afternoon, following a text from BW. He’d got 5 smart black terns, feeding on Thorpe lake. I got there and enjoyed them for fifteen mins, before they decided they were off. Typical spring birds, not hanging about-needing to get to wherever they were going. Black terns were recorded from many waterbodies across central England during the day. Called for a look at nearby Thurlby and Norton Dis, but none there. My photos were rubbish, this one taken by Ben.

(His relentless watching and dedication to Whisby accounted for a turnstone later in the day)
