The neck-collared Lake Windermere greylag (orange PZB), that was here in March was back at Marston today. Wonder where it spent the time in between.
Another unexpected sight was a pair of turtle doves looking very settled around the scrape. Singles seen on a couple of occasions recently but first time I’ve seen a pair for a couple of years. Maybe just passing through. Much ‘purring’, seemed just like spring. It’s a big thrill when you get birds that are in huge decline. On the flip side it’s the first year ever that I haven’t recorded cuckoo, strange as Marston has been one of the best inland sites in Lincs. My only chance now is a juvenile.
