Marston, September

September 2016 sightings at Marston.

2nd.  2 juv. marsh harriers. Approx. 60 yellow wagtails. Wheatear.

4th.  Hobby, 50+ teal, 3 green sands, 30 yellow wags, 50+ goldfinch, 15 curlew.

8th. Day of the solitary sandpiper! see report on previous posting.

9th. 3 green sands, marsh harrier, 2 ravens, hobby, 10 snipe, PZB neck-collared greylag, 3 little egrets, 18 curlew, grey wag, barn owl.

10th. Very distant flock of 40 waders-looked like godwits, NWest. 50+ yellow wags into reedbed roost. M and F marsh harrier. (5 different marsh harriers seen during the month).

11th. 30+ meadow pipits, South. 6 little grebes.

13th/14th. Female mandarin (first since 2012 I think), hobby.

16th. Hobby, wigeon, first one this year, lesser whitethroat, 18 curlew.

18th. 6 green sands, hobby, 15 curlew.

21st. 3 wigeon, barn owl, 2 green sands.

this green sand, on the right, looked very slim, but was just a green sand.

22nd. Pintail,(less than annual), 11 grey herons in field (record count at Marston?) 35 gadwall, 50+ house martin, 50+ swallow, 4 grey wags.

I think this was a young male.

23rd. Pintail, hobby.

24th. 75 lapwing, 100+ swallows.

27th. 450 greylags.

30th. 4 green sands, 2 grey wags.
