A few hours at the coast today. On the way over 200+ pinkfeet went Southwest (ish), over North Kyme, mid morning.
I started with a seawatch at Hutoft, it wasn’t outstanding to say the least, though it was probably a bit late in the day for passage. Saw; r t diver, skua, auk, gannet, common scoter, brents. A seal or two kept popping up in the surf.
Just down the coast at Chapel six marshes I found a goose flock, feeding in stubble, just inland. A search through the pinkfeet revealed at least 20 white-fronted geese (some of the flock were out of view). Also 2 tundra bean geese, my first of the winter. I love looking through goose flocks in winter, I was half expecting the beanies as there have been quite a few down the east coast recently.
Worth looking for this flock if you’re in the area. I would have liked a bit more time grilling them, a few of the whitefronts looked a bit dark…
Now up to 234 species seen in Lincs this year (BOU).
Didn’t take any photos-header pic from archives, Marston birds.
*FOOTNOTE* 23/10/16 Alex lees and his wife visited yesterday and noted a min. of 8 tundra beans and 21 eurasion whitefronts. Not only that but they found a RED-FLANKED BLUETAIL near the car park!!!!. See this link;
