Had a late lunch in Bourne Wood today as was working in Oakham and then Bourne today. I parked in the usual spot where you are guaranteed good views of Nuthatch and Marsh Tit at this time of year due to them visiting the feeding tables in the car park. It was a gloomy, mucky, misty day so light not ideal for snapping but I got these images.
3 or 4 Nuthatch appeared at the feeding table I was parked near and soon the ‘knock’ knock’ sound of the Nuthatch storing their finds in the neighbouring trees for later, could easily be heard.
A couple of Marsh Tits were seen fleetingly in with the other Tit species, Great, Blue, Long Tailed and Coal.
After lunch and a couple of work related phone calls I made my way home and as I was passing the turning in Corby glen to go eventually to Hawthorpe I thought let’s have a look for Short Eared Owl.
No Owls were seen but this pair of Stonechat showed nicely on the side of the road, shame there was not decent light for better pics.
A Red Kite glided past in the mist.
On the way home I stopped to look at a decent number, around 30 Redwing feeding on berries on Laxton Lane, they were coming into view for photos but every time a vehicle went past they flew to the other side of the field side hedgerow.
Will have to go back on a better day to see what can be seen.
