Waterwell lane, Ancaster.
Yesterday afternoon I had a drive along and noted some good birds. Most significant was a flock of corn buntings containing approximately 35 birds. This was an impressive count for the area, a few pairs breed but this is the first time I’ve seen this many. In addition to this flock, a couple of birds were singing, on territory further along the lane.
Other birds seen;
- 3 male wheatears, on tilled field and drystone walls
- 4 yellow wagtails
- 5 white wagtails
- 6 pied wagtails
- 3 pairs grey partridges
- 10+ pairs red-legged partridges
- c20 stock doves
- 30+ pheasants
- 12 mistle thrushes
- 2 pairs lapwings
- at least 40 skylarks
- 10+ linnets
- 15 yellowhammers
- pink-footed goose, with local greylags
- 30+ sand martins around pool
- a few swallows
- 2 house martins
- red kite
- 3 buzzard, including a striking pale morph bird
