Woodhall Spa old airfield LNR. 15th May 2017.
Arrived, went to get scope out of the boot only to find I’d forgotten to load it. I wasn’t too bothered-I’ve done it before, (either that or the camera). This seems to be the recipe for finding a decent bird and sure enough, soon after going through the gate I locked onto a superb drake long-tailed duck.
There were a few waders about, too. These tested me, now I really was beating myself up over the scope not being with me! There were 10 ringed plovers, at least 3 pairs of little ringed plovers, 2 dunlin, side by side, one in summer plumage, one in winter, were a striking comparison, 1 poss 2 common sandpipers, a greenshank, a redshank and a few lapwings and oystercatchers.
A cuckoo sang and a pink-footed goose was with greylags.
Red kite near Nocton Fen on way home.
