A mega alert late Friday night saw me on the road next morning.Margate cemetery was the destination for a female dusky thrush that had apparently been around for three days before news broke.I got on to the bird pretty quickly and had great views on and off through the morning.
Shape and sizewise it was like a song thrush.It’s left wing was slightly shorter than the right.
With only around ten previous records in Britain this bird was very popular,this being the first properly accessable one for fifty years.The place was alive with twitchers.Margate cemetery is a beautiful,peaceful place with scores of mature trees.
There was certainly a big rise in the body count today! I would think a couple of thousand birders visited through the day.
There were a few ring-necked parakeets about.
Afterwards I called into nearby Reculver where a female Montague’s harrier hunted field and dyke edges,along with male and female marsh harriers.

Back to normality this afternoon when I took the dog for a walk at Marston sewage works.A garden warbler sang it’s heart out in the willows at the end of the main track (works end).What a lovely song that is.They are not at all common here.
