GGS

25/10/2016

I worked the coastal strip from Hutoft down to Chapel Six, targeting migrants. The weather was absolutely gorgeous, didn’t think I’d be birding in a T-shirt again this year. I really fancied it but there weren’t that many small passerines, apart from goldcrests. A couple of blackcaps and four stonechats were at Wolla bank and then a great grey shrike popped up right in front of me. Wot a beaut. A fine addition to my self-found list this year.

A skein of over 200 pinkfeet travelled south, just inland. Another skein of about 80 flew very low above the surface of the sea. Six whooper swans, obviously tired after their long journey, chilled out and drifted south on the sea.

the shrike was showing quite nicely until this nutter flew around for ages, low above the reserve
